The multi-building Toronto–Dominion Centre was built in the mid-1960s and is considered an icon of rationalist Modernism. Mies van der Rohe's refined, minimalist design was a declaration of grandeur and marked Toronto’s arrival on the world stage.

Finnish architect Viljo Revell designed the futuristic Toronto City Hall in the mid-1960s. Two curved towers face a flying-saucer like structure that houses the city council chambers.
