Rock Office

On a soft plot beside a canal in Bình Thạnh, a21studĩo completed Rock Office in 2007. The building combines the studio’s architecture and construction workspace with an interior showroom. A short lease of five to ten years and unstable ground set tight limits on cost and construction time.

The design uses curved walls formed from steel cages packed with locally available stone. Their structure helps resist horizontal forces on the soft ground, while the cage system can be assembled quickly and reused.

These walls shape work and display areas around garden pockets. Their curves open changing views from inside and outside, bringing the planted spaces into the daily use of the office and showroom.

Concrete slabs provide a direct contrast to the rough stone walls. The simple construction suits a building planned for a site that would only be available for a limited period.
